On week 05, Miss Yen Hui starts to brief us about the Assignment 02 which is the STORYBOARD(Contextual Visualisation).

Visual Culture
  • Communicating visuals that carry significance and context.

  • Viewing visual media as modes of artistic representation.

  • Utilizng 2D and 3D objects as visual elements.

  • Exploring the impact of visual stimuli on our experiences and emotions.

  • The intersection of visual culture and its role in communication.

FOR EXAMPLE : TEXT VS IMAGE

SEEING COMES BEFORE WORDS
IMAGE IS POWERFUL

Seeing
  • Is the visual perception of the present equivalent to that of the past?

  • According to John Berger, the act of seeing is not as impartial as commonly believed. He supports this claim by illustrating that our perspective on the world is shaped differently compared to individuals from over a century ago due to the influence of photography and technology.

TASK 02: Storyboard

Create a storyboard to visually represent and bring to life your design ideas through composition and illustrations. This storyboard will serve as the foundation for a video production.

After presenting and analyzing your hypothesis in assignment 1, you should have narrowed down to a specific problem question or hypothesis. Once you have established that, your next step is to translate your findings into action by constructing a storyboard. The aim of the video is to provide a conceptual or abstract interpretation of the story's meaning or findings, utilizing two-dimensional or three-dimensional mediums and employing techniques like stop motion, time-lapse, or special effects in photography or video (such as green screen, costume design, and makeup).

A storyboard acts as a graphical and illustrative representation of how your video will unfold, outlining its different stages. While there is no fixed format, a typical storyboard consists of visual frames accompanied by notes describing the video's events, including symbols or additional annotations indicating shot types, angles, and other details.

Storyboards play a crucial role, particularly for designers, in determining the visual semiotics (how visuals communicate with the audience and how the designer intends the visuals to engage, inform, provoke, or entertain the audience). Therefore, applying design principles in composition will be beneficial.

Miss Yen Hui had showed us some examples of the storyboard.

Contexual Visualisation

In art, composition involves the harmonious integration of various elements within an artwork. This typically pertains to the central subjects of the artwork and their arrangement in relation to one another.

The composition determines the viewpoint or perspective from which the information is presented.

Task for this week :

  1. Start to choose which kind of template of storyboard I want to use.

  2. Start to write out 2 storyline.
